Macaroni Art II

This is another wonderful idea: giving a simple, boring picture frame an entire new look by gluing different shapes of pasta on it and painting it with bronze colored craft paint.

This is also a neat craft project for children, especially when you use colored macaroni or pasta. You can do this yourself by putting small amounts of pasta in a cup, pour rubbing alcohol in the cup until all the pasta is submerged. Add drops of food coloring to it and swirl until it is well mixed and all the pasta is saturated.

Let the pasta sit for at least 30 minutes and stir the macaroni regularly, making sure they are getting evenly colored. Drain the macaroni by using a colander or strainer, lay them in a single layer on paper towels and let it dry for about 24 hours. A word of caution: this pasta is NOT edible due to the use of the rubbing alcohol, so don't let the kids put them in their mouth!

I was mainly looking for craft projects using macaroni, but it so turned out that all kinds of pasta is used for art. A university even had their students built bridges from uncooked spaghetti. Well, if that can be done, why not glue together lamp shades, dinosaurs, cars, dollhouse furniture, etc, etc,? Yeah, my imagination is boiling over!
